Launch of the Week

Paddle, a merchant of record and subscription billing provider, began rolling out a mobile checkout upgrade that prioritizes Apple Pay and Google Pay and removes loading delays from its one-page Billing checkout. This puts a visible buying experience at the center of its competition with Stripe Billing and FastSpring, although the rollout applies specifically to that checkout configuration.

Company Launch

P402, an API micropayment service, launched with x402-based payments and an advertised 1% transaction fee. Developers considering the Coinbase Developer Platform facilitator for pay-per-use APIs now have another option for handling small payments without a conventional checkout.

Enterprise Watch

Clerk, an authentication and user management platform, restricted secret-key management to workspace administrators, while members can still see non-sensitive key details. Separating routine visibility from credential control could make its developer-friendly dashboard easier to approve alongside enterprise identity options such as Auth0 and WorkOS.

GTM Trends

Sanity, a headless CMS, launched a builder challenge with $3,000 in v0 credits for projects that use structured content to deliver useful features, with submissions closing January 22. The contest could make its differentiation from Contentful and Strapi tangible through working products instead of another feature comparison.

More Devtool News

  • ✨ Clerk, an authentication and user management platform, launched JWT-format OAuth access tokens. Applications can verify them locally instead of making a verification request. The tradeoff is that issued JWTs remain valid until expiry, while opaque tokens support immediate revocation. Its OAuth infrastructure competes with Auth0 and WorkOS.
  • ✨ Paddle, a merchant of record and subscription billing provider, added Cancellation Flows to its customer portal. Configured retention surveys and offers now appear when customers cancel there, including through cancellation links in subscription emails. This broadens retention coverage, but teams still need to design an offboarding experience their customers find fair. Paddle competes with Stripe Billing and FastSpring.
  • ✨ Clerk, an authentication and user management platform, added an option to hide incomplete reporting periods. Overview reports can now compare completed periods without a partial day, week, or month skewing the picture. This improves a quick growth check, although it remains a narrowly scoped reporting control. Clerk’s account platform competes with Auth0 and WorkOS.
