Coverage: July 13–19, 2026.
Launch of the Week
Knock, a notification API, introduced branch rebasing, bringing changes from development's main branch into a working branch while preserving resources edited there. This could help teams coordinate parallel messaging work, although its resource-level resolution differs from a line-by-line Git merge and deserves testing alongside alternatives such as Novu.
Company Launch
MapMap, a mapping and navigation API startup, emerged from stealth on July 17 with a hosted public beta for adding maps and routing to applications. It gives teams considering Mapbox an alternative built around self-hosting, with a free tier for trying the hosted service.
Enterprise Watch
Clerk, an authentication and user management platform, announced a future phaseout of CBC cipher suites, starting January 18, 2027 as managed certificates rotate. The advance notice gives enterprises time to inventory legacy clients, making migration communication another factor to assess alongside identity competitors such as WorkOS.
GTM Trends
Liveblocks, a provider of real-time collaboration APIs, expanded its AI slideshow example with multiple slides, drag-and-drop, and direct text editing. A more complete example makes the product's collaborative use case easier to evaluate against general realtime infrastructure such as Ably, although it remains a demonstration rather than a finished application.
More Devtool News
- ✨ Clerk, an authentication and user management platform, made SAML login hints configurable, allowing email addresses, custom attributes, or no hint per connection. This helps fit identity providers using employee IDs or usernames, while administrators must choose the right identifier; WorkOS is an alternative.
- ✨ Knock, a notification API, added passkeys for dashboard authentication, alongside its existing authenticator-app option. Device-backed verification can simplify team sign-in, but recovery and enrollment still need administration when evaluating operational controls against Courier.
- ✨ Sanity, a headless CMS, added JSON output and dry-run support for deployment commands, exposing targets, files, and blocking problems before execution. Machine-readable plans can improve deployment review, but a successful preview is not proof that the deployed application works; Contentful is a competing content platform.
